YouthBuild St. Louis Partners In the fall of 1989 at a seminar sponsored by the Youth Action Program in East Harlem, YEHS staff were inspired by the potential for national replication of an alternative education, youth leadership, employment, construction training and housing development program where young people succeed by working in partnership with caring adults. YEHS joined YouthBuild USA and a national coalition of youth and housing groups to advocate for legislation to start YouthBuild programs all over the country. In 1991 YEHS was selected as a national YouthBuild replication site for YouthBuild USA. In 1992, with funding from Monsanto, utilizing the Missouri Neighborhood Assistance tax credit program, and other public and private grants, YouthBuild St. Louis was able to implement one of the first YouthBuild programs in the country. Since July 1994 YouthBuild St. Louis has been awarded HUD YouthBuild Implementation grants. Since1995 YouthBuild St. Louis has been a part of YouthBuild USA's Multi-State AmeriCorps Leadership Initiative with other YouthBuild sites across the country.
