YEHSYouth, Education, and Health in Soulard
YEHS is a nonprofit community-based organization that was founded in 1972 to developing needed services in order to save the historic Soulard neighborhood from being torn down and to prevent the displacement of low and moderate income residents of the area. To accomplish its goals YEHS first launched a free breakfast program, summer employment/training, tutoring, and recreation for disadvantaged St. Louis youths.
YEHS's other programs soon followed, and today, in addition to YouthBuild St. Louis AmeriCorps, includes Affordable Housing Development and Management of 200 affordable housing units.
