February 2008 marked HUGH SMITH’S debut with the Israeli Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta as Don Carlo, about which the Israeli critics wrote "The phenomenal voice of Hugh Smith in the principal role of Don Carlo takes the audience aback. Smith, a heroic tenor, does wonders with his voice from every point of view, either forceful or brilliant." Ha'aretz.
