Restored Museum Gets State Award, Adds Hours

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 18, 2006

The Campbell House Museum is a recipient of the Missouri Preservation McReynolds Award recognizing the recently completed restoration of the Museum. The award will be presented at a special ceremony in the State Capitol Rotunda in Jefferson City on March 2, 2006.

In 2005 the Campbell House finished a five-year, $3 million restoration resulting in one of the most accurately restored 19th Century buildings in America. Built in 1851, the Campbell House was the home of renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family from 1854 until 1938. The museum contains hundreds of original Campbell possessions including furniture, paintings, clothing, letters, carriages and a unique set of interior photographs taken in the mid-1880s.

Missouri Preservation annually honors contributions to the preservation of Missourišs historic resources. The McReynolds award is given for "significant achievements in the field of preservation" and is among the most important awards given out by Missouri Preservation. Missouri Preservation, known formally as the Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation is Missourišs only statewide organization dedicated to promoting, supporting, and coordinating historic preservation.

The Campbell House has also added new hours. The Museum is now open year-round, Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m to 4 p.m and Sunday noon to 4 p.m. The Campbell House is no longer closed during the months of January and February.
