Volunteers
The Campbell House Museum depends on dedicated, enthusiastic volunteers to carry out daily operations and special programs. The work of volunteers is vital to the museum's operations. The Museum ALWAYS has a need for volunteers in the following areas:

  • Docents provide guided tours to Museum visitors. Comprehensive training is provided.
  • Museum Store Volunteers staff the Museum Store and help visitors with purchases. Training is provided.
  • Garden Volunteers assist the Museum staff in planting and maintaining the Museum's grounds and gardens.
  • Office Volunteers assist the Museum staff with office tasks such as the processing of mailings.
  • Docents and Museum Store volunteers are scheduled when the Museum is open to the public (Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Sundays from noon until 4 p.m.). Most Docents and Museum Store volunteers work one day per week or one day per month. A volunteer coordinator handles scheduling, which is very flexible. Museum Store staff is scheduled similarly by the Store manager.

All volunteers receive comprehensive on-the-job training, a subscription to the seasonal newsletterCampbell House Courier, and invitations social and educational special events throughout the year. The best rewards, perhaps, are the friendships made, and the satisfaction of contributing to a the cultural quality of life in St. Louis.

The members of the Board of Directors and various committees are all volunteers. They are invited to serve by the Executive Director and the Board Development Committee. If you would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, please contact the Museum.

    Campbell House Interns, Summer 2006

    Internships
The Campbell House Museum works in cooperation with colleges and universities to promote education in history, art history, museum studies and other programs.

Interns may be assigned to focus on a particular facet of the Museum, such as collections, development, research, educational programming, or promotion. However, a broad range of activities will be part of the experience, and the student will receive exposure to various contacts in the cultural institutions industry in St. Louis. As a result, the intern will be better prepared for the "real world" of work.

    Campbell House Interns, Summer 2003

In recent years interns have worked on projects as diverse as helping establish the Museum's collection database, a GIS project mapping the Campbell's Lucas Place neighborhood and reaserch into Robert Campbell's involvement in the 1851 Fort Laramie treaty.

Internships are generally not paid but are available for course credit. For more information, work with your school advisor and please contact the Museum.
