NEW BUSINESS |
| Neighborhood Report: Michelle Boston David said new housing was going up on West Park behind the bakery and 6448 Nashville will be in the Sheriff's sale next year. That's two problem properties that are now an asset to the neighborhood. Extra Innings closed, and there is a sign on the door that it will be a pool hall but no permit has been applied for at City Hall. |
Police Report: Dave Ramsey reported officers from other districts will help patrol shopping areas. He said they are losing 150 officers to attrition, but there won't be as many bicycle police or overtime money, but they are doing the best they can. St. Patrick's Day planning is underway. They want to be careful to keep it under control. Businesses will stop serving at 8 p.m. Crime in the neighborhood is steadily declining. Personal crime is down 61 percent. There was a rape at the St. Louis Marketplace, but the perpetrator was caught. |
Announcements: Dean Meredith reported that we are participating in the campaign "Pennies for the Park" and we want to raise 2004 pounds of pennies by February ($3,500). Salvation Army needs volunteers at the headquarters on Hampton. February and March meetings are both in conflict with St. James activities. The meetings will be relocated to Forest Park Hospital. The members present voted to donate $200 to St. James for the use of the cafeteria. Also the members elected to donate $50 to Energy Care, which provides gas and electric assistance to the elderly. St. James Holiday Festival will be Saturday from 3 to 7 and Sunday from 11:30 to 6 p.m. The pot of gold was awarded while waiting for Tom Bauer to swear in officers. |
Swearing In: The following people were sworn in to a one-year term. President: Christopher Petersen; Vice President: Elizabeth Vogel; Secretary: Maryanne Dersch; Asst. Secretary: Alison Kocher; Treasurer: Mary Ann Coker. |
State Representative's Report: Derio Gambaro reported that the new session will begin the first week of January. Rebuilding Communities Act will be handled by the Department of Economic Development. Applications will be accepted as of January 3. Turn the applications in because the program is first come, first serve. Anyone in the city that is a homeowner qualifies for a tax credit up to 35 percent. Arena site is undergoing a clean up and will be ready for construction in early spring. |
Alderman's Report: Tom Bauer reported the plan to build the Drury Inn at Highway 44 and Hampton is now on hold. Next year he said he is hoping to get more money to repave alleys. He is still pursuing ornamental lighting for Tamm Avenue. |
Adjournment: There being no other business, pot of gold and attendance prizes were awarded and Mr. Meredith adjourned the meeting at 8:50 pm. |
Respectfully submitted, Maryanne Dersch, Secretary November 28, 1999 |
