General Meeting

Minutes

Call to Order: President Dean Meredith called the meeting to order at 7:35pm.

Approval of August Minutes: Minutes of the August, 1998 meeting were approved with no changes. The treasurer's report was also approved at this time. Treasurer Ana Casey reported $3288.00 in the treasury.

6448 Nashville: Mr. Meredith reported that the judge ruled against the owner. Michelle Boston-David reported he still has one appeal. She thanked everyone for sending letters and showing support at the hearing.

Winery Trip: Mr. Meredith reported that there were still a few spaces open for the October 15, trip to the Mount Pleasant winery.

Dogtown Business Meeting: Mr. Meredith reported that the business district received $25,000 to be used for capital improvements. Some of this money will be used for new trash cans. He also reported that the pharmacy is closing on Saturday. Silver Screen will occupy the space. In Cheltenham a new Bosnian restaurant opened.

Newsletter Delivery: Mr. Meredith said newsletter delivery volunteers get a break - we are mailing our October newsletter.

Michelle Boston David: reported on the Auto Storage Yard. Owner came up with a valid permit from the 70's that the city didn't have on record. They are now negotiating with the owner to improve the appearance of the site. Eminent Towing is gone because of hazardous conditions.

Crime Report: Officer Vize gave the report. Most incidents happened on the outskirts of the neighborhood or in the business areas.

Community Garden: Elizabeth Vogel said she is looking for volunteers to work on Saturday, September 26 at noon to plant bushes for a living fence. Also looking for an ornamental bench to put inside the gazebo. There are still 23 plots available, six have been taken.

Arena: John Rainero from Cheltenham said there is a rally to save the Arena at 4 p.m. on September 18. It is now the proposed site for a 26-acre office park. The Mayor is adamant about bringing down the building, so he encouraged anyone in favor of keeping the building to show their support.

Tony Oberhaus, St. Louis Fire Department: Bond issues on the November ballot will help the fire department, including renovations to the McCausland station and upgrades to the Manchester station. Other issues for bonds include police equipment and funds to demolish abandoned buildings. These three issues will appear separately on the Nov. 3 ballot. Total of the bond issues $65,000,000.

Annual Dinner Meeting: It will be held on October 15 at 6:30pm. $6 for members and $8 for guests, cash bar will be available.

Adjournment: There being no other business after the pot of gold and attendance prizes were awarded, Mr. Meredith adjourned the meeting at 8:27pm.
