Traditionally, Ihe third week-end in June was the occasion of the St. Louis Ragtime Festival aboard the Goldenrod Showboat on the St. Louis Riverfront. However, financial difficulties Ied to the sale/sail of the Goldenrod down the river, and the cancellation of the festival. The Board of Directors of The Friends of Scott Joplin House felt that the thousands of fans who looked forward to attending the festival each year, should not be disappointed. To fill this void, they are endeavoring to organize a weekend of events which will make up for the loss. They contacted national artists such as Richard Zimmerman, The Electera String Band and local artists Trebor Tichenor, John Hancock and Richard Egan, who have all pledged their support. As planned, the Rendezvous would consist of a series of events which would be a demonstration of Ragtime music's diversity: Friday, June 15 at 7:00 PM "Ragtime In Bloom" This event to be held in the enchanting garden setting of Tower Grove Park's Stupp Center, will feature tunes inspired by and named for the blossoms in Victorian Gardens.
