1999 St. Louis Ragtime
Piano Campetition

Review.)
The Friends of Scott Joplin are sponsoring a ragtime
piano competition, Saturday, May 15, 1999, at St. Louis Community: College
at Forest Park, 5600 Oakland Ave., St. Louis, MO, beginning at 10:00 A.M.
The competition is open to all piano students up to 18 years of age. There
are three divisions, Ages 8 to 10, Ages 11 to 14, Ages 15 to 18. First
place prize is $100.00, second place prize is $50.00 in each of the three
divisions. First place winners will be invited to perform at the 1999
St. Louis Ragtime Festival in September.
The judges are: Jeanne Milder - Retired Chair,
Music Dept. at Forest Park Community College; Soloist, St. Louis Symphony
Orchestra; Master of Music, Eastman School of Music. Trebor Tichenor -
Internationally recognized Ragtime historian, collector, author, teacher,
and performer: has recorded numerous ragtime albums including both solo
performances and with the St. Louis Ragtimers, Jan Hamllton Douglas -
Historical Researcher at the Scott Joplin House State Historic Site; professional
Ragtime performer over 30 years; graduate of SIU-Carbondale Piano Dept.
The rules are: Five minute time limit for each
contestant's performance. Contestants may use less time but can not exceed
the time limit. Compositions performed must be in the Ragtime style and
are subject to approval of the judges. Age division will be determined
by the age of the contestant as of May 15, 1999. In case of a tie, full
prize will be awarded to both contestants. For an entry form please write
