Ragtime Piano
Competition Results!!!!!
(From the May, 99 Euphony Review)
The ragtime
piano competition had a fine turnout with 50 young performers, and the
quality of the performances was high. The judges had great difficulty
in choosing the winners. If these young people continue to perform, the
future of ragtime is in very good hands.
The winners
were: First Division: First place went to Emily Sprague, age 10, with
Maple Leaf Rag, and Second place went to Anna Marcus, age 9, with
The Entertainer.
Second Division:
First place was won by Grayson Coleman-selby, age 12, with Elite Syncopations,
and Second place featured a tie between Phillp Kemp, age 12, with Swipesy
Cakewalk and Patrick Dell, age 14, with The Easy Winners.
Third Division:
First place was won by Marit Johnson, age 16, all the way from Ashland,
Mo., with The Favorite, and Second place was a tie between Sarah
Quigley, age 15, with Weeping Willow, and Mica Tucci, age 16, with
Silver Swan Rag.
Meritorious
performers included: Ben Becker, Kevin Hsiao, Andrew Boyd, Alexandria
Butler, Ryan Chuang, Alex Corrigan, Colleen Dixon, Angela Gao, Emily Gentemann,
Tyler Hall, Rebecca Hendin, Laura Koch, Leah Kate Squires, Alanna Anthony,
Brad Calhoun, Kim Corey, Bruce Zhu, Amanda Allen, Abigail Brady, Sean
Crowder, Andrew Doll, Ashley Johnson, Angela Lin, Stephanie Trick, Nicholas
Wertsch, Alana Zhu, Heather Nelson, Christopher Yost, Lindsey Hueter,
Kimberley Kuehler, Linda Ding, Angela Fucoloro, Pennie Holland, Sean Martin,
Matthew Frank Willis, Griffin Todd Farris, Diana Lin, Alicia Seibel, Steve
Wildermuth, Sarah Witt, Joseph Badino, and Mike Prochaska.
The Friends
of Scott Joplin thank all the participants, parents, and teachers for
helping keep our native American art form of ragtime very much alive.
