Friends of Scott Joplin Mission

Greetings from the Friends of Scott Joplin!

"The Friends of Scott Joplin"  (formerly known as "The Friends of Scott Joplin House) is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote public awareness of the life and legacy of Scott Joplin. Emphasis is placed is placed on performance, education, and preservation of Joplin's music and that of other composer-musicians of the Ragtime era.

Organized in 1989, the "Friends" have sponsored Ragtime concerts, the Scott Joplin Birthday Party, the Rosebud Ball & Cakewalk Competition, published the Euphony Review newsletter, and provided continuing support to the Scott Joplin House State Historic Site in St. Louis, Missouri.

Other recent accomplishments:

  • Organized a recording company to produce Ragtime music and spoken word albums and publish Ragtime books and pamphlets, music folios, and sheet music.
  • Sponsored a series of ragtime music competitions for school age children.
  • Held a monthly Ragtime Rendezvous and meeting in St. Louis on the first Sunday of each month. These meetings afford opportunity for members and guests to share performance of music by Joplin and other Ragtime composers.
