New Measures

DON'T LET THE ST. LOUIS HOUSING AUTHORITY (SLHA) PUT MORE LOW-INCOME PEOPLE ON THE STREETS!

The Issue:
The SLHA has proposed new measures that would change local preferences and admission policies for subsidized housing in the city of St. Louis.
The proposed admissions policy would eliminate the existing preference for homeless families and assign the highest point value (or preference) to working families and students.
Although the SLHA has the discretion to define "work" broadly enough to include welfare-to-work activities, they have chosen not to do so.
If these changes are adopted by the SLHA, anyone currentlly on the waiting list for public housing will lose their place if they are unemployed or transitioning from welfare into a work activity (not recognized by the SLHA).
The net result of the changes will be a dramatic increase in homelessness and hardship for many low-income and homeless families in the city of St. Louis.

What can you do to help?
Print out and sign the postcard below and mail to : Commissioner, 4100 Lindell Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.
Atend the public hearing on this issue.  The law requires that the Housing Authority hold a public forum for citizens and tenants to give their input on the proposal.  Watch for an upcoming e-mail with the date and time of this hearing!

Dear Commissioner,

Please keep low-income and homeless people a priority in housing and the waiting lists. If you don't, it will result in more homelessness and hardships for low-income people!
