Construction Prep Center

CPC HISTORY

A diverse coalition of private and public entities collaborated their efforts and resources to develope this non-traditional, comprehensive training center.

MISSION

Resolving issues of diversity and preparing individuals for placement and retention in apprenticeship programs and employment in the construction trades.

OBJECTIVE

The CPC is dedicated to preparing participants for entry into the Carpenter, Cement Masons, Craft Laborers, Ironworkers, Operating Engineers and Teamsters apprenticeship programs.

GOVERNANCE BOARD

The CPC operations and directions is supervised by a nine member Governance Board. This board oversees the establishment of bylaws for the CPC, defines the structure of the center's day-to-day operations, and makes determinations of how the facility will be managed as well as establishing accountability procedures for the Construction Prep Center.

ADMISSION

All applicants are required to complete an application before he or she is admitted to CPC. Applicants must be 20 years of age or older and a resident of the State of Missouri living within the CPC service areas. However, the CPC will admit persons who are 18-23 years of age.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Applications for admission to the CPC can be obtained from the Construction Prep Center at 6347 Plymouth. Applications must be completed in full with required documentation and returned to the CPC Admission Office. An incomplete application will delay processing and date applicant is admitted to begin training.

CPC INSTRUCTIONAL SUMMARY

The Construction Prep Center provides 8 weeks of training in Basic Skills, Work Readiness, Orientation to Construction and Labor, and Trade Exploration.

ACADEMIC STANDARDS AND POLICY

Students are graded on the following receiving a grade of good, fair, poor or unacceptable.

  • Skill Level Acheived
  • Safety Habits
  • Handling of Tools and Equipment
  • Initiative
  • Attitude
  • Test/Quiz Scores
  • Attendance

No student with poor attendance and or attitude, lack initiative, is in drug rehab, and has not met the necessary academic standards will graduate or receive a Certificate of Completion from the CPC until these standards are met.
