Services Provided

The Adult Basic Education Program (ABE) of the St. Louis Public Schools provides an opportunity for adults to learn basic academic skills needed to benifit from job training and retraining programs, to obtain and retain productive employment, and to continue their personal educational goals. ABE basic skills training includes:

  • Mastery in reading, writing, mathematics and problem solving skills.
  • Literacy skills for effective functioning in everyday life and in the workplace.

Adult Secondary Education includes:

  • Reading, writing, computation, science, social studies and critical thinking skills at a secondary level of competence.
  • Completion of an equivalent high school diploma (GED).

The facility also offers the following services for persons with limited English proficiency:

  • Instruction in listening, speaking, reading, writing and understanding English.
  • Preparation for the TOEFL (Test on English as a Foreign Language).
