STEPPING INTO THE LIGHT MINISTRY
FOCUS:
Initially targeting homeless men offering a clean and
positive environment. We also
provide weekly support groups, daily devotions and outside professional
counseling to help deal with the root of their problems.
Every effort is made to show these men that “functioning as a member of
the community” can only benefit their lives when they learn the value of
self-discipline and the importance of rebuilding family relationships.
Goal & Objectives:
Emergency Shelter: Upon
arrival at Stepping Into The Light, Inc. the client is evaluated for a needs
assessment and enrolled into a 30-day in-patient program. Which includes (life
skills training, 12 step support groups, work therapy and individual counseling
that deals with the root of their addiction as well as family and community
issues)
Life Skills Training:
After the first 30-days pending evaluation clients are enrolled in
cooperative effort with several other organizations, giving them the opportunity
to receive additional help. Within the facility they are offered a group called
“Full Circle” which gives the clients a chance to receive mentoring by staff
and volunteers to supplement their spiritual and emotional support. This also
gives them the opportunity to share their experiences with a circle of their
peers. Together with the Life Mapping, Leadership classes, and Twelve Step
programs offered by other organizations (Alcoholics
Victorious), clients are afforded every opportunity
to receive their healing and gain victory over their addictions. This
combination of programs provides the chance to get involved with the community
while dealing with both the clinical and spiritual issues they may face.
Job Placement:
Upon entering the Shelter Care phase, clients are evaluated and pending
results employment interviews can be arranged. Assistance in learning how to handle
finances as well as work related stress situations and social problems are
focused on at this time by counselors. By doing this we assure each
client that support is available as they exercise their walk at becoming
productive and valuable members of the community. Mentoring by staff and
volunteers is also provided to supplement their spiritual and emotional support.
Transitional Housing: After a successful stable employment history of six months is established the client upgrades to the transitional housing phase. This affords them the opportunity to set goals and accept additional responsibility for their lives, thereby giving them an increased sense of purpose and self-esteem
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and
of love, and of a sound mind.
