Community Organizing

SLACO currently provides staffing assistance to 11 neighborhood associations. Organizers work with the neighborhood leaders on addressing the issues of concern to neighborhood residents. The community organizers work with neighborood leaders to:

Identify issues of concern to neighborhood residents
Establish priorities and goals for the selected issues
Develop strategies for achieving those goals
Implement the strategies
Evaluate how well the strategies are working

The organizers provide assistance but neighborhood residents identify the issues and carry out these neighborhood improvement efforts.

SLACO also organizes the Neighborhood Leadership Training Program on an ongoing basis. This is a way for people who are beginning to take an active interest in their neighborhood to learn from their more experienced neighbors.
