Develop Your Safety Plan:

  1. DO NOT tell your abuser your plans.
  2. Collect phone numbers of agencies and services that can help you. Keep these where your abuser won't find them.
  3. Find a safe place to stay - somewhere your abuser won't find you.
  4. Take your children with you if possible.
  5. Bring all your important papers with you: driver's license, car titles, birth certificates and social security cards for you and your kids.
  6. Take car and house keys.
  7. Take a change of clothes.

How to Help a Friend Whose Partner Beats Her:

  2. Keep in touch.
  3. Be persistant.
  4. Listen without judgement.
  5. Mirror her strengths for her.
  6. Be Specific about how you are willing to help.
  7. If you see or hear an assault in progress call the police.
  8. Above all, Dont Give Up. Your caring can be a lifeline.
