Becoming a Mentor

You can help by becoming a SLVRP Mentor! Please read the information below and then call (314) 877-2012.

  • Is non-judgemental
  • Asks for help when help is needed
  • Allows the mentee to learn from mistakes
  • Models successful parenting and life skills
  • Advocates for the mentee in seeking community services
  • Celebrates the mentee's successes

  • Spend about 6 hours a month with one pregnant or parenting teen for 12 to 15 months
  • Participate in monthly fun and educational group meetings
  • Attend training orientation sessions
  • Maintain communication wtih the Resource Parents staff

  • Act as a professional counselor or care provider
  • Spend their own money on the mentee
  • Act as a babysitter
  • Do anything that makes them feel uncomfortable

Becoming a Mentor
* Completion of an application
* One 2 to 3 hour orientation training
* Interview by staff of SLVRP
* DFS child abuse/neglect screening
* Criminal background screening
* Completion of consent form
* Two personal references and two professional references
