COMPUTER APPLICATIONS DIVISION


Entries in the classification within this division which include two (2) copies of their entry on disk. All entries must include necessary equipment for demonstration and evaluation. All entries must be completed within the Industrial Technology Education/Technology Education classroom. Display boards are recommended for explanation of problem and steps followed to develop the solution. Entries are platform independent.


SOFTWARE APPLICATION (CA-1)
Entries in this classification should be designed to solve a problem using a computer application (limited to wordprocessing, database, spreadsheet, telecommunication, networking, and operating system). The students work will be judged on complexity of problem, purpose, interface, application documentation, application presentation, innovativeness, and user friendliness. The instructions for application start-up and operation must be typed and graphically illustrated. In addition to a printed manual, students are expected to provide necessary help information within the application itself. Suggested application software include EXCEL, 1-2-3, Access, Visual dBase, Approach, Novell Network, Linux network, Windows NT, Windows 95, MAC, Unix, Linux, etc. All coding must be viewable and ready for testing and evaluation. All entries must provide a computer for application operation and evaluation.

MULTIMEDIA APPLICATION (CA-2)
Entries in this classification should be designed to solve a problem using a multimedia-based application. The students work will be judged on complexity of problem, problem solving documentation, application presentation, innovativeness, and user friendliness. The instructions for multimedia-based application start-up and operation must be typed and graphically illustrated. In addition to a printed manual, students are expected to provide necessary help information within the multimedia-based application itself. Suggested multimedia-based software include AutoDesk's 3D Studio, Macromedia Multimedia Director, Macromedia Multimedia Programming, etc. All coding must be viewable and ready for testing and evaluation. All entries must provide a computer for application operation and evaluation.

COMPUTER PRESENTATION (CA-3)
Entries in this classification should be designed to communicate a specific subject. The presentation can be in the form of a WEB page, Portfolio, Slideshow, Video, etc. The students work will be judged on complexity of presentation, content quality of presentation, graphic quality of presentation, sound quality of presentation, innovativeness, and effectiveness. The instructions for presentation start-up and operation must be typed and graphically illustrated. In addition to a printed manual, students are expected to provide necessary help information within the presentation application itself. Suggested presentation-based software include AutoDesk's 3D Studio, Microsoft's PowerPoint, Lotus Freelance Graphics, Corel 3D, etc. All design work must be viewable and ready for review and evaluation. All entries must provide necessary equipment for application operation and evaluation.

COMPUTER ANIMATION (CA-4)
Entries in this classification should be completely computer generated and it can be completed by an individual student or a group of students. The students work will be judged on a wire frame construction of the animated objects as well as their computer illustrated, shaded or rendering of the object. Since this is an animation, the object should run smoothly through a number of frames to produce a two to five minute illustrated presentation. The instructions for presentation start-up and operation must be typed and graphically illustrated. All design work must be viewable and ready for review and evaluation. All entries must provide necessary equipment for application operation and evaluation.
