MECHANICAL DRAFTING DIVISION


Entries in the classification within this division which include more than one sheet must be bound together along the upper, middle, and lower left-hand edge of the completed set. Small drawings should be on top with larger drawings on the bottom. Drawings must be kept flat. Title blocks containing the personal identification data must be covered. If tracing media is used and the original drawing is not directly on tracing media, the original must be the student's own work. Indication must be made whether or not the work submitted is original.


MD-1 BASIC MECHANICAL DRAWING
This classification is for students with less than one credit in mechanical drafting. One or more instrument drawings (no sketches) drawn with pencil or ink on drawing or tracing media, not larger than 24" x 36", are eligible. This classification may include drawings of machine parts, pictorial drawings, or sheet metal developments. Workbook sheets may be submitted, if labeled. Dimensions are required.

MD-2 ADVANCED MECHANICAL DRAWING
This classification is for students who have completed at least one high school mechanical drafting course. The entry shall consist of a complete set of detail and assembly orthographic drawings in pencil or ink on drawing or tracing media. Drawings not larger than 24" x 36" are eligible. Drawings of machines, accessories, jigs or fixtures, or any advanced drafting project of this nature may be submitted.
Detail drawings must be fully dimensioned. A single entry must include an orthographic assembly drawing and a selection of not more than five detail sheets. If six or more sheets are involved in the project, the assembly drawing and the best five detail sheets must be selected and submitted.
OR
A selection may not have more than five developments drawings. Irregular shaped objects that have either practical or theoretical applications are eligible. The developments drawings must be properly detailed and dimensioned.
OR
A selection may not have more than five pictorial exploded or other types of pictorial assembly drawing of machine parts. Details of three of the principal parts completely dimensioned must accompany the pictorial drawing.

A selection may not have more than five special types of drawings such as electrical, electronic, plumbing, structural, topographical, etc.
Awards in Groups C, D, and E.
MD-3 BASIC MECHANICAL COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING
This classification is for students with less than one credit in mechanical drafting. One or more computer aided drawings, not larger than 24" x 36", are eligible. This classification may include drawings of machine parts, pictorial drawings, or sheet metal developments.
Awards in Groups A, B, and E.
MD-4 ADVANCED MECHANICAL COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING
This classification is for students who have completed at least one high school mechanical drafting course. The entry shall consist of a complete set of detail and assembly orthographic drawings generated with the use/aid of a computer on suitable plotter media not larger than 24" x 36" are eligible. Drawings of machines, accessories, jigs or fixtures, or any advanced drafting project of this nature may be submitted.
Detail drawings must be fully dimensioned. A single entry must include an orthographic assembly drawing and a selection of not more than five detail sheets. If six or more sheets are involved in the project, the assembly drawing and the best five detail sheets must be selected and submitted.

MD-5 COMPUTER DRAWING ANIMATION - (GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES ALLOWED)
This classification is for students who are enrolled in a high school technology course. The entry shall consist of a computer generated drawing of machines, accessories, jigs or fixtures, or any advanced drafting project. The entry must include drawings in animation in the wire frame mode, the rendered mode, and the animation with a displayed background. The title of the entry must be presented within the animation. The animation drawing must be student generated, while the background and/or text fonts can be part of the computer program. THE ANIMATION DRAWING MUST BE GENERATED TOTALLY BY THE STUDENT. NO SAMPLE COMPONENTS OR SAMPLE ANIMATION'S ARE PERMITTED WITH THE ENTRY. The animation must be on display for the judges to view the entry (two to fifteen minutes in length).
