WOODWORK DIVISION


Entries in this division represent the various processes associated with the wood industry. All entries must be accompanied by a complete set of drawings which will only be used to check measurements, construction, and specifications.


WO-1 BASIC WOODWORKING
This classification includes projects which are made to be mounted on a wall or placed on a piece of furniture. A single entry may consist of more than one piece, if they form pairs or are matched sets having the same function, such as a pair of candle holders or a two-piece pattern. The pieces must be clearly marked to show that they belong to a single entry. Entry must include drawing(s). Examples: (Box, tray, wall shelf, or coat rack)
Awards in Groups A, B, C, and E.
WO-2 WOOD FURNITURE CONSTRUCTION
This classification includes any piece of freestanding furniture which normally sets on the floor, on the lawn, or on the patio. Only one item will be permitted per entry except for matched pairs or sets. Two or more pieces of furniture forming a matched pair or forming a set having the same function will be admitted as one entry. A suite of furniture is not allowed. Examples: (Tables, chests, dressers, stereo cabinets, chairs, stools, desks, and bookcases.) Entry must include drawing(s). (Note: Entries such as stereo sets and clocks will be judged only on the quality of woodworking and not on the electrical, electronic, or mechanical equipment.)

WO-3 ADVANCED WOOD FURNITURE CONSTRUCTION
This classification includes any piece of freestanding furniture which normally sets on the floor, on the lawn, or on the patio. THIS CLASSIFICATION IS FOR STUDENTS WITH ONE OR MORE PREVIOUS YEARS EXPERIENCE IN WOOD FURNITURE CONSTRUCTION. Entry must include drawing(s). Examples: (Tables, chests, dressers, stereo cabinets, chairs, stools, desks, and bookcases.)
Note: Entries such as stereo sets and clocks will be judged only on the quality of woodworking and not on the electrical, electronic, or mechanical equipment.
Awards in Groups C, D, and E.
WO-4 WOOD TURNING
Any wood project on which the major portion of the work is turned is eligible. Entry must include drawing(s). Examples: (Lamps, ashtrays, candlesticks, trays, bowls.)

WO-5 CARPENTRY AND CABINET-MAKING - (GROUP/MULTIPLE STUDENT/SINGLE STUDENTS ALLOWED)
An entry in this classification must show a type of construction, rafter construction, floor and window framing, or any construction which exemplifies building principles in the construction of a residential or commercial building. Examples: (Small building or construction mock-up). An entry in this classification may also include work that is traditionally built into a structure as a permanent fixture. Examples: (kitchen cabinets, vanity cabinet, or bar.) Entry must include drawing(s).

WO-6 WOODWORKING COMPUTER AIDED MACHINING
This classification includes any project in which the machining of the project constitutes the major operation with the aid of a computer interface. A printout of the NC program must be included. Examples: (Spindles, bowls, or lamps.) Entry must include drawing(s).
