The War Trauma Recovery Project has adapted and tested empirically supported treatments to address Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and related problems that plague those who have suffered severe trauma due to war, disaster, accident, or as the result of crimes such as domestic violence or torture.

Effective treatment includes education and psychological services to ameliorate symptoms that interfere with normal function and degrade quality of life. It is a relief for clients to learn about normal reactions to trauma, what they can do to tolerate and cope with their own responses, and to heal, overcoming debilitating symptoms that once seemed beyond control.
A venture grant from the United
Way helped launch WTR in 1997. Free outpatient psychotherapy services certified
by the Missouri Department of Mental Health were provided between 1998
and 2004. The War Trauma Recovery Project has been invited to make
presentations at the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies'
conferences annually. The project has federal tax-exempt status as a non-profit
organization and belongs to the National Consortium of Torture Treatment
Programs. Program, clinical and staff support services also available.
