Adult educational opportunities include General Education Development (GED) classes, driver education and computers. A federal grant through the city Office of Youth Development funds a "SafeFutures" family support center. U.S. Project Safety Net funding supports a community conflict mediation station. Carver is also a 21st Century Community Learning Centers Program site. Highlights among activities for students are media technology and drug education art programs. A wiener roast open house will take place in September.

Clay was added to the community education sites in 1995-96, based on many collaborative activities already developed in its neighborhood. The program includes a wide variety of before- and after-school activities, parent and adult education, neighborhood planning and stabilization and social services at the school site. The school works closely with Grace Hill Neighborhood Services and Friedens Haus to augment services to families in the Clay CEC service area.

Educational programs emphasize oral and written communications and the creative arts in regular, after-school, adult and parent education classes. Columbia is a Caring Communities site, bringing city and state social services to the students, families and other residents in its service area. The Columbia CEC has a family resource center and activities in collaboration with Camp Wyman and is a location for cooperative neighborhood stabilization and planning activity.

Offerings include after-school tutoring and recreation for students, a preschool for children ages 3-5, parenting and both regular and English as a Second Language (ESL) family education classes, GED, business and recreational programs and activities for adults. Neighborhood planning, safety and security and health are among the available services coming from extensive community collaboration. Fanning CEC has one of the federally-funded community conflict mediation stations under Project Safety Net. Fanning CEC hosts monthly inter-national events that facilitate communication and fun for bilingual students and their families.

Ford CEC is a Caring Communities site that offers a variety of educational, technological, recreational and domestic programs. The center's goal is to serve and collaborate with the community to offer African Dance and Educational experience, Pal Double Dutch, Girl Scouts of America, Monsanto YMCA and LOV-A-NARY. Classes for adults include water aerobics, computer classes and adult basic education and GED classes. New this year is a collaborative effort with Center for Faith Action and Response and Union Memorial United Methodist Church on a family literacy project.

A weed-and-seed program to enhance the community is one of the center's contributions to neighborhood stabilization.
