This Toolkit is designed as a guide to help you plan events where your community can come together to build web content that is relevant to them. In St. Louis, we have called these events "web fairs." You may call them what you want, and organize them in the manner that best suits your community, but we believe that processes used to engage the community and bring it together will be similar. The Toolkit is intended to assist people in planning web fairs for both neighborhoods and not-for-profit agencies. The process is very similar; where there is a difference, additional material has been added explaining what steps you should take.
This Toolkit is available in a printed version and in an on-line version. The printed version allows you to familiarize yourself with the process of putting on a web fair, so you can start thinking about what would work best in your community. The Toolkit also exists as an on-line version at http://stlouis.missouri.org/cin/toolkit. There you will find this Toolkit in web format, as well as links to all of the forms that are included in the toolkit. There are also training manuals and guides on various topics (such as e-mail and HTML). These documents can be downloaded and changed to suit your needs.
The steps on the following pages are suggestions based the experiences the St. Louis CIN has had.
