This volume contains past land-use information, organized by category, on property parcels within the 62-square miles comprising the City of St. Louis. This information has been obtained from CDA's Research of Historic Land Use, 1820 - Present. Such information may not be classified by EPA nor MDNR, but represents potentially adverse condition to the surrounding environment, based on such past usage.
Since its founding in 1764, the City of St. Louis grew westward until 1876 when the present city limits were established, enclosing nearly 62 square miles. Land in older portions of the city are in their fifth cycle of use and have been employed for a variety of agricultural, residential, commercial, and industrial activities.
