The Earnings Tax Department of the Collector of Revenue Office is responsible for the collection of all earnings tax. The Earnings Tax Department collects the one percent wage tax on all wages earned within and without the City of St. Louis for all city and non-city residents as appropriate. The Earnings Tax Department collects the one half percent payroll tax from businesses that have employees working in the City of St. Louis. The Earnings Tax Department also collects the one percent earnings tax on all profit from individuals, partnerships and corporations that do business in the City of St. Louis. The earnings tax department does not issue business licenses or collect sales tax.
