Comptroller Darlene Green serves as the chief fiscal officer of the City of St. Louis and is a member of the executive branch of City government and the Board of Estimate and Apportionment. Comptroller Green - a city-wide elected official - directs her staff to assist in daily operations, fiscal and economic development strategies of the City.
The City Charter states that the Comptroller shall head the Department of Finance (Comptroller, Assessor, Collector of Revenue, Treasurer, and Supply Division) and exercise general supervision over its divisions, all fiscal affairs of the City, property, assets, claims, and the disposition thereof.

(Above) Nichole Stovall met with Comptroller Darlene Green at her City Hall office to accept first prize for winning the comptroller’s annual Black History Essay Contest. Stovall is a junior at Clyde C. Miller Career Academy and wrote her first place essay on the impact of Barack Obama’s presidency. Ashley Brown-Joiner, a senior at Beaumont won second place (not pictured) and Dominique Taylor, also a senior at Beaumont, earned third place (below). The comptroller’s annual essay contest is open to all St. Louis Public School District high school students. In addition to the certificate, prizes include $100, $75 and $50 savings bonds for first through third place.
