The Federal Grants Section is primarily responsible for administering the disbursement of approximately $70 million a year in federal and state grant funds to a variety of agencies and City departments. These grant funds provide substantial financial assistance to the City and help fund various social service and community development programs.
Some major grants administered by the Federal Grants Section include the following: The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) whose funds are used for residential and community development; various grants for the Department of Health including HIV/AIDS and lead abatement grants; a grant to fund the City's Drug Court which helps defendants overcome alcohol and drug addiction; and the Emergency Shelter Grant Program which funds services for the homeless.
The staff reviews all contracts involving these and other grants prior to forwarding them to the Comptroller for signature. They also review accounts for receipts from federal agencies and review requests for reimbursement from the federal and state governments.
The Federal Grants Section of the Comptroller's Office strictly adheres to all federal and state grant procedures and regulations.
