Primary and General Elections

What are the dates for upcoming Primary and General Elections?

The primary election for state and federal offices will be Tuesday, August 3, 2004.

On the ballot are: 1 US Senator, US Representatives, Missouri Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Senators, State Representatives, Circuit Attorney, Sheriff, City Treasurer, Public Administrator, Democratic Party Committeemen & Committeewomen, Republican Party Committeemen & Committeewomen, Libertarian Party Committeemen & Committeewomen, and Green Party Committeemen & Committeewomen.

The general election will be Tuesday, November 2, 2004.

On the ballot are: US President, 1 US Senator, US Representatives, Missouri Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, State Treasurer, State Senators, State Representatives, Circuit Attorney, Sheriff, City Treasurer, Public Administrator, and the Judge Retention Ballot.

When does my Polling Place open? When does it close?

The polls are open from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Do the Governor and Lt. Governor run on separate tickets in the Primary Election?

Yes.

What type of Primary Election does the State of Missouri conduct?

Missouri has an open primary. Voters must declare their party affiliation prior to receiving a ballot. The ballot will be counted in the party primary as stated regardless of punches applied in voting.

Who pays for the Primary and General Elections?

These elections are paid for by the residents of the jurisdiction, they are included in the budget of the Election Board as provided for by the Legislature.

Who chooses election judges? (The poll workers inside the polling place on election day)

The Board has two Deputy Assistants-Judges who act as office Election Judge Supervisors. The Election Judge Supervisors receive recommendations from political party committee people and are responsible for the appointment of election judge precinct workers for their party.
