ADOPTION SUCCESS STORIES

VINCE

Here's our success story :-)

I had been telling my oldest that as soon as we moved into a house we'd get a dog. It took us several months to convince her dad of that, but then we decided we'd just get us a dog and he'd get used to it. He'd originally agreed to the dog, but when we started pressing about getting one he started to hem and haw. Then he laid all the responsibility on me--and we went for it.

We took my brother with us, my 4yo daughter, my 1 yo son, and me--and we went to look at all the really beautiful animals at the pound. We finally agreed upon a beautiful sable shepherd female. We had gone into the shelter saying no boy dogs and no German Shepherds (we had lost a German Shepherd in the divorce and she was just irreplaceable).

We went back for the interview and when we did we went to see our beautiful blonde girl. Only to find that girl gone already--and a different dog in her cage. But--we decided to take a chance--and we took the poor Romeo out for a bit of air and sunshine to get a good look at him. Him. A beautiful boy, very German Shepherd shepherd mix. The lady pulled him out of the cage and he wrapped his paws around my neck, buried his face in my hair--and that was pretty much that--that was our dog.

We brought him home (after his visit with the vet) and de-fleaed him--and we really can't think of life without him. He is still super affectionate, very dedicated. A big goofball who likes to chase his own tail. Our one problem with him is trying to convince him he's not people. My daughter cannot go to sleep without him on her bed--he keeps the monsters and bad dreams away. He even puts up with my now 2yo son beating and yanking on him as Nik 'pets' him. We are so very happy that the mix-up occurred and that we got stuck with this goofy mutt. :-) We love him to pieces--all of us. Even Dad had to come around when Vince was housebroken in under 2 days--what can we say? He's smart--too smart for his own good--but we love him anyway.

We can't thank you enough here for this guy. Really.
