| What is CityView? |
CityView is Mayor Francis Slay's initiative to help make St. Louis City government more effective, responsive and accountable. It employs proven strategies that other cities have used successfully to improve their municipal services. |
| How Will CityView Work? |
Every month agencies will gather updated statistics to measure their performance. That information, in turn, will be reviewed at regular meetings between agency heads and top City officials. The data gathered in this process is intended for a very basic purpose: to enhance accountability, quickly identify current and potential problems, and improve services to our citizens. |
| How was CityView created? |
Shortly after Mayor Slay took office, he directed his staff to review programs nationwide and develop the best government performance program in the country. You can learn more in the CityView History section.

| Why is CityView important to citizens in the City? |
We can do more with less. Good information, communication and accountability allow City government to provide better services at lower costs. CityView will help departments develop strategic plans and goals to keep the City moving forward.

| Why is CityView important to City employees? |
Most employees are hard working and dedicated to St. Louis. CityView will help ensure support of and reward for the people and programs that make the City a better place.

| How does CityView help City managers? |
With good information, managers can make better decisions and focus resources where they can get the most bang for the buck. Reporting that information lets the Mayor and other elected officials understand who is doing a good job on behalf of the taxpayers.

| Does this kind of thing actually do any good? |
Other cities that have tried similar programs have seen some extraordinary results. Programs in New York's Department of Corrections realized a 95% decline in inmate violence over six years. Baltimore saved millions by reducing overtime, and there are other similar success stories from Indianapolis to Austin.

| Will CityView reduce government spending? |
Saving money is a priority - especially in times like these, but not to the exclusion of providing quality services to our citizens and businesses. Our goal is to use our taxpayer dollars more effectively, put money in programs that have proven results, and improve the quality of life for our citizens, businesses and organizations.

| How does CityView measure success? |
The CityView team works with department managers to develop goals and performance measures. At a monthly meeting, department managers meet with the CityView Panel to review their department's progress and discuss challenges faced by each department.

| What is the CityView Panel? |
The CityView Panel is the body of City officials and employees who meet with each department to review monthly performance reports. The panel is composed of the following individuals or their representatives: the Mayor, Chief of Staff, Executive Director of Operations, Budget Director, Personnel Director, the Mayor's CIO, the City Counselor, the Mayor's Neighborhood Coordinator, the Mayor's Legislative Coordinators, and other department heads (depending on the departments being reviewed and the interaction they have with other departments).
