"McMillan helps raise $10,000 for Harris-Stowe scholarships"

St. Louis Business Journal - March 27, 2007

St. Louis License Collector Mike McMillan helped raise $10,000 through private donations to start a new scholarship program for Harris-Stowe State University students in collaboration with the Collegiate 100.

The Collegiate 100, an auxiliary organization of the 100 Black Men of America Inc., is comprised of African-American male and female college students on university campuses across the country.

Dave Chilenski, spokesman for the license collector's office, said McMillan is working to raise $50,000 from Harris-Stowe alumni and corporations, as well as private individuals.

This year three recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward their tuition each year. In addition, the three recipients will intern in the city of St. Louis' license collector's office.

McMillan served as alderman for the 19th Ward from 1996 to 2006. The 19th Ward encompasses Midtown St. Louis and Grand Center area.

Scholarship recipients were chosen based on their academic excellence and community service, according to a release.
