AARP Celebration of Life

The 13th annual 2008 AARP Celebration of Life was once again a huge success with positive comments from both the participants and vendors. This year the fair was held on April 2 at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Cosponsors were Missouri Botanical Garden, Lutheran Senior Services, PrimeLife Circuit, SSM St. Mary’s Health Center, St.Andrew’s At- Home Services, and St. Louis Area Agency on Aging for this year.

Mayor Francis Slay attended and spoke to the participants. The Mayor welcomed the audience, emphasized the importance of community volunteers and recognized Carlene Davis, winner of the 2007 Andrus Award for Community Service.

There were 50 exhibitors featuring free health screenings like blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat analyses, heart health-cardiac risk assessment, and a pharmacist to review medications. Crown Vision also offered vision screenings and Centers for Hearing and Speech did auditory screenings. Moreover, participants were given lots of free products from the vendors including an onsite chair massage.

There were also prize drawings and vivacious entertainment. There was a Grand prize of $300 to Trout Lodge in Potosi, MO and Ms. Senior Missouri 2007 performed for the participants. She shared her experiences as a pageant competitor, sang, danced and played a variety of musical instruments.
If you missed The Celebration of Life 2008 don’t miss it in 2009! For more information, please contact Anneliese at 612-5917.
