Before And After Tax Election

Employees must choose whether to have medical and dental deductions made before or after taxes. Deducting premiums before taxes lowers your total taxable income and reduces the income taxes you have to pay. Deducting premiums after taxes means that all taxes, including Social Security, are based on your full income.

Information will be available with paychecks on May 2. The election form must be returned to the Department of Personnel, Employee Benefits, 1114 Market, Suite 900, no later than 5 p.m. on May 23.

You do not need to complete an election form if you wish to continue your current election. Any changes in your election will be effective June 22, 2008.
