Falls Prevention Awareness Day
The St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) in partnership with
Saint Louis University, Academic Programs in Physical Therapy
and Nursing, Show Me Falls Free Missouri Coalition and the Missouri
Pharmacy Association held a fall preventive clinic in an effort
to help area senior citizens avoid suffering from dangerous falls.
The clinic which took place at the Wesley House in North St.
Louis encourages seniors to exercise regularly, have doctors
review their medicines, improve home lighting, and reduce hazards
that lead to in-home falls. Tammy Hamilton, Healthcare Coordinator
for SLAAA notes that falls are a leading cause of older adults’
emergency room visits, hospital and premature nursing home
admissions, and fatal injuries.
