Third Annual St. Louis Times Geriatrics Symposium

The 2009 St. Louis Times Geriatrics Symposium will be held at Saint Louis University this year in the Busch Student Center, Room 170, 20 N. Grand Boulevard. The event transitions to a different area university each year. The event will be from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Early registration online is $45 (Seniors 65+ $10) / Students - $10. Walk-in registration is $50. Registration fee includes event registration, parking in garage, morning refreshments, lunch and networking.

Three hours of free CEU’s will be available for Social Workers.

Open to the public, students, and professionals, this half-day educational & networking event presents some of our area’s foremost experts on aging issues. This year’s speakers and topics include:

- Margaret T. Donnelly – Director / Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services
Topic: Aging in Missouri

- Dr. Miguel Paniagua – Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine Topic: Falls in Elders and Injury Prevention

- Dr. Abhilash K. Desai - Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Health Brain Aging, Saint Louis University School of Medicine Topic: Stimulating and Maintaining a Healthy Brain

- Linda Weiner, LCSW - Diplomate and ASSECT certified Sex Therapist since 1987
Topic: Human Sexuality and Aging

Nina Tumosa, St. Louis University / Veterans Administration, will kick off the event with a talk on “The Field of Gerontology Here and Abroad.”

The St. Louis Times Geriatrics Symposium is endorsed by some of our area’s leading aging-focused organizations including: Alzheimer’s Association – St. Louis Chapter, Area Agency on Aging of Southwestern Illinois, Breakthrough Coalition, COCMA – St. Louis Chapter, Greater St. Louis Hospice Association, Healthy Communities - St. Charles Senior Task Force, Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Missouri Care Planning Council, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys – Missouri Chapter, Parish Nurses, PRCL, Social Workers in Home Care, Social Workers in Long Term Care, Society for Social Work Leadership in Health Care of Greater St. Louis, Inc., St. Louis Area Agency on Aging, and St. Louis Unit Professional Geriatric Care Managers.
