Leaves

Effective Nov. 18, residents who use roll-out carts may request a special leaf collection. Our truck will collect bagged yard waste from residents who call the Refuse Division at 353-8877. This is in addition to the Wednesday yard waste collection.

The City of St. Louis Refuse Division would like to advise residents that yard waste services for roll-out carts will be discontinued during the winter months. Wednesday, Dec. 2, will be the last pick-up date for yard waste placed in roll-out carts. Weekly yard waste collection for roll-out carts will resume March 3, 2010.

Residents with alley containers will continue to receive yard waste pick-up. However, the schedule will change from a weekly pick-up to a monthly pick-up effective Dec. 2. The monthly pick-up will occur during the same week as the bulk collection for each neighborhood.

Alternatively, consider composting your leaves, as a means of conserving resources and avoiding disposal costs. Composting information is posted on our website at http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/recycle/compost.html. Please visit our web calendar at
http://stlouis.missouri.org/citygov/recycle/calendar.html for a class on how to compost, including the one scheduled below:

December 15 (Tuesday), 6 p.m.-6:50 p.m.
What: Home Composting class. Learn how composting yard and kitchen waste can improve your garden, landscaping, or yard; save money; and reduce waste of organic materials.
Where: Bevo-Long Community Education Center (CEC), 5028 Morganford Road, St. Louis 63116.
Cost: Free of charge to the general public.

For more details about composting, such as a free 33-page Home Composting Made Easy guide, contact the Refuse Division’s Recycling Program by e-mail at recycle@stlouis.missouri.org or by fax at 314.352.5627.
