Senior Home Repair Program

The St. Louis Area Agency on Aging (SLAAA) of the Department of Human Services assists senior citizens throughout the year with minor home repairs. This is accomplished by utilizing various youth and volunteer groups. Last year, 60 seniors received assistance.

The process begins with the senior, caregiver or professional calling 612-5918 to request assistance. Then a SLAAA representative assesses the seniors’ home to determine needed repair and any other work that need to be done. Supplies and materials are provided by volunteer programs, SLAAA and senior homeowners.

The volunteer groups do a variety of tasks including clearing clutter from homes, painting, minor repairs to interior and exterior, yard work and cleaning gutters. At times the work is necessary because the house has received citations.

Many times during their visits volunteers share fellowship with the seniors and learn about each other.

Volunteer groups wishing to help seniors through the SLAAA program should contact 612-5918 for more information.
