Dependent Child Status Or Disability Status

The City’s Plan allows coverage for dependent children to the end of the calendar year in which the dependent child becomes age 19. Employees who have a dependent child who became 19 years old in 2007 will be requested by UnitedHealthcare to provide proof of full-time student status.

Additionally, an employee who has a dependent child who is totally disabled and over age 19 must submit proof of total disability to UnitedHealthcare within 31 days of attainment of age 19. Coverage beyond age 19 is not guaranteed unless proof of dependent status can be verified.

Both of these situations also apply if an employee covers their dependent child on the life insurance.

Please contact the Employee Benefits Section at 622-3200 if you have any questions.
