Mayor Francis G. Slay
“Thank You” For Sales Tax Victory

I want to say “thank you” to city employees for helping pass the ½ -cent sales tax for public safety.

The large majority voters gave the proposition shows that our residents realize you are doing a good job and moving the city in the right direction.

Your hard work for the city is greatly appreciated by me and the residents of the city.

While this sales tax will be used for public safety issues, it frees up funds that we will use to give city employees a 2.5 percent raise and provide funding for your pension system. complete story >>

Getting There In Style

A change to the city’s travel policy prompted the comptroller’s asset management section to upgrade the pool car fleet. The travel policy no longer allows for reimbursement for personal vehicle use when traveling within the State of Missouri. Instead, those on official city business must sign out a pool car from the Municipal Garage.

The city recently purchased three late model vehicles that are now in the inventory for city workers to use on official business. The 2007 Ford Taurus’ will provide city employees greater safety, reliability and comfort compared to older fleet vehicles.

“Some of the places people go on official business are hundreds of miles from St. Louis and we knew that employees had some reservations about taking some of our older vehicles that far out of town. complete story >>

Start! Heart Walk Announced

City employees have been invited by the American Heart Association (AHA) to participate in this year's Heart Walk on May 3 and to simply start walking to improve their health.

According to the AHA, heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #2 killers of St. Louis men and women. One of every two women will die from cardiovascular disease, compared to one in 29 who will die from breast cancer. More than 65 million American adults are overweight.

The AHA's Start! initiative aims to change the statistics in St. Louis by calling on everyone to join the Start! movement and start walking. complete story >>

Dear City Employees,

The deadline for news items for the April Newsgram is Wednesday, March 19.

We encourage all departments to find news items to send to us for the next edition. We are asking every department to designate one person to send us staff news, photos, information on events and any information you would like to share with your fellow city employees. Send us the articles in Microsoft Word with the photos separate.

We need you to tell us what’s going on!
