Historic City Building Gets New Look

The corner of Tucker and Clark streets in downtown St. Louis is nearing completion of a massive face-lift. On the north side of Clark St., next to the St. Louis City Justice Center, is the new parking garage built and operated by the Treasurer’s office. Directly across the street is the Municipal Garage owned by the city and operated by the Comptroller’s office.

Improvements on the space where the Treasurer’s new garage stands are obvious. A new, multi-level parking structure replaced an unsightly surface lot. What is happening on the south side of the street is much less dramatic.

In case you missed it, new windows now adorn the façade of the garage and adjoining fire house. This subtle, yet remarkable change, is a welcome improvement to downtown and quite an upgrade for the building’s exterior (see the before and after photos below). complete story >>

New Book on Skinker-DeBaliviere Neighborhood

Jo Ann Vatcha, Housing Analyst for Residential Development at Community Development Administration, and Marj Weir have put together a new book and DVD entitled, "Celebrating Skinker-DeBaliviere: History and Comeback" from the TIMES of SKINKER-DEBALIVIERE, designed in collaboration with the Missouri History Museum (MHM).

The preview party at Joe Edwards’ new Moonrise Hotel on Aug. 14 was a virtual who's who in the history of the Skinker-DeBaliviere neighborhood. Those in attendance at the large turnout included: Alderwoman Lyda Krewson, former Mayor Vince Schoemehl and his wife Lois, Joe Edwards, Lana Stein, Andy Cross, Lu and Sam Green, Dan and Jill McGuire, Jill Claybour, Pete and Susan Littlefield, Mary Lou Green, Dr. Robert Archibald and his wife Kathy, Nancy Rice and Nancy Farmer. complete story >>
STL TV Season Premiere, Awards Sept. 10

STL TV Season Premiere, Awards Sept. 10“We’ve Got More!” is the theme of the 2009-10 STL TV season premiere. The new season will kick-off with a spectacular party on Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Old Rock House in Soulard.

The gala evening will feature a VIP reception, live entertainment, food, beverages and previews of upcoming STL TV productions. STL TV (Channel 10 on Charter cable) is the City of St. Louis government access television station providing local programming and government information.

Highlighting the event will be the presentation of the 2009 STL TV Community Star Awards to five individuals and organizations for their outstanding service to the St. Louis community, and special “Jewel Awards” to STL TV staff members and talent, who were nominated by their fellow broadcasters for excellence of achievement in the past season. complete story >>
