Construction Update: August/September 2003Aviation Field: The fields are complete and are open to the public. Work is still underway on the paths. The Forest Park Softball League is seeking teams for fall play. Contact Roger Berry at 289-5307. Boathouse: Project is complete and open. The City of St. Louis awarded the contact for the operator to Catering St. Louis/Forest Park Forever. The Boathouse is open daily and the new phone number is 367-2224. Dual Path: Work has started on the new dual path system. Construction has started at Union and will proceed west to Skinker, along Skinker from Lindell to Wells. Work should be complete in November. Fish Hatchery area: The roads are open. All the stone work is completed and the area will be reseeded in the fall. Landscaping should be complete in late fall. Fish Hatchery/MDC: Pond renovations are completed and the lakes are stocked with fish. The Missouri Dept. of Conservation has started its fishing program. The new comfort station is complete. Grand Basin/Post-Dispatch Lake: The Basin and lake are filled with water, eight fountains are operating and workers are finishing the stone work. Landscaping will be completed in the fall. Golf Course/Clubhouse: The 9-hole Hawthorne course and Ruthie’s Grill in the Clubhouse are open. Work continues on the remaining 18 holes – Dogwood 9 to be completed in September followed by the Redbud 9 in spring 2004. Jewel Box: Project is complete and open to the public. Reservations for weddings and parties can be made by calling 289-5389. Langenberg Field: Renovation of the field is ongoing. It will be re-seeded for use in 2004. The pedestrian bridge has been installed. The bike path is complete to the bridge. Lindell Pavilion: Work is underway with completion scheduled for Fall and open Nov. 1. Landscaping will start in the fall. MSD: Sewer Improvements along Washington and Well Drives will start in September and be completed by the end of the year. Muny: Plans for the beautification of the South Muny Plaza were approved at the Forest Park Advisory Board. Work will start in the fall and be completed by spring 2004. Picnic Pavilion: The pavilion is being completed, with landscaping being done in the fall. River Project: The Forest Park Master Plan envisions a connected linear waterway in the park. Work is complete and the water is flowing from the Cascades all the way to the Steinberg area. Adjustments are being made as necessary due to climate conditions to ensure a continuous flow typical of a natural stream. A water quality management plan is being designed. Signs: New signs directing park visitors to the institutions and attractions are in place. World's Fair Pavilion: The Donor Plaza and landscaping will be installed in the fall. Road, Traffic WorkClayton/Faulkner Avenues: Work is complete and the path is open. East Grand Entrance: Work is complete and street is open. Fine Arts Drive: Fine Arts Drive will be closed to through traffic until November. The public can access the Art Museum parking lot from the east and to the Museum from the west during this phase of road construction. Improvements to the main entrance will be completed in September. Lagoon Drive: Construction has started with completion by the end of the year. Lagoon Dr. is one-way going east until the end of the year. Skinker Entrance: The dedicated right turn lane will be eliminated. Pedestrian signals will be installed to tell path users when they have the right-of-way. A concrete median will be installed. Project should be completed by fall.
