The Boathouse in Forest Park will not be open this year.

The Boathouse and pavilion will be razed this spring as part of the renovation of the Grand Basin and Post-Dispatch Lake. A new $2.4 million facility will be built in its place and will have all of the charm of a cabin in the woods with modern amenities that will include a catering facility for private parties.

As the initial step of the $10.9 million renovation of the Grand Basin/Post-Dispatch Lake area, the water bodies have been drained.

The Grand Basin and Post-Dispatch Lake will be dredged and landscaped. The Basin walls will be replaced and new walkways, boat landings and landscaping added. The Post-Dispatch Lake will be reshaped and landscaped. Two new islands, one for picnics and one for wildlife, will be built, and lagoons dredged and reconnected to the Lake for improved boating. As part of the overall Forest Park Master Plan, the golf holes on the Grand Basin and Art Hill will close in August, returning the Grand Basin to public use upon completion of the restoration, projected for Fall 2003.
