Youngsters who want to learn or improve their basketball skills can attend one of three free summer football camps offered by the Parks Department's Play Time Recreation and the Demetrius Johnson Charitable Foundation.

Basketball camps will be held at three city schools. The first camp is scheduled for the week of July 13 and they will continue to be held through the week of July 27.

Boys and girls ages 8 to 17 are eligible to participate. Youth Football Camps are designed to improve a child’s skill level.

Coaches from the Demetrious Johnson Charitable Foundation will be providing instruction. Fundamentals of all positions on offense and defense will be taught in addition to life skills such as teamwork, communication, sportsmanship and the importance of education.

Participants will be grouped based on age and skill level. This camp is free of charge but participants must bring proper tennis shoes and shorts. Space is limited to 50 youths per camp.

Camps will be held:

Session One: July 13 through 17 at Langston Middle School, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Session Two: July 20 through 24 at Yeatman Middle School, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Session Three: July 27 through 31 at Fanning Middle School, from 2 to 5 p.m.

Space is limited and youngsters must be registered to attend camp. For a registration form, call Play Time Recreation at 289-5367 or go to Sports Camps. Fill out the form and return it to: Parks Department, Play Time Recreation, 5600 Clayton Ave., St. Louis, Mo. 63110.
