Youngsters who want to learn or improve their soccer skills can attend one of six free summer soccer camps offered by the Parks Department's Play Time Recreation and the Midwest Soccer Academy. Soccer camps will be held in six city parks. The first camp is scheduled for the week of June 15 and they will continue to be held through the week of July 27. Boys and girls ages 7 to 15 can participate in the camps regardless of their experience playing soccer. Instruction will be given in shooting, passing, dribbling, ball control, trapping, heading and other fundamentals.
The focus of the soccer camps is to have fun while working toward a team concept through skillful and consistent instruction. Soccer camps are free but enrollment limited to 75 youths each week. All enrolled participants will receive a free soccer ball. Camps will be held: Session One: June 15 through 19 at Marquette Park, from 9 to 11 a.m. Session Two: June 22 through 26 at Lindenwood Park, from 9 to 11 a.m. Session Three: July 6 through 10 at Sherman Park, from 9 to 11 a.m. Session Four: July 13 through 17 at Gamble Park, from 9 to 11 a.m. Session Five: July 20 through 24 at Carondelet Park, from 1 to 3 p.m. Session Six: July 27 through 31 at Willmore Park, from 1 to 3 p.m. Space is limited and youngsters must be registered to attend camp.
