The Proposed Gravois-Jefferson Streetcar Suburb National Register Historic District

On November 12, 2004, a proposed historic district within the City of St. Louis will be considered by the Missouri Advisory Council on Historic Preservation for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register is the Federal government’s official list of historic properties worthy of preservation. Listing in the National Register provides recognition and assists in preserving our Nation’s heritage. The proposed Gravois-Jefferson Streetcar Suburb Historic District contains 4888 residential and commercial properties with 1684 outbuildings in an area roughly bounded by Gravois, Jefferson, Meramec and S Grand.

Comments must be submitted by November 12, 2004. After this date, subsequent to the approval of the Missouri Advisory Council, the nomination will be signed by the State Historic Preservation Officer or their designee and submitted to the Keeper of the National Register for Federal level review.

On October 25, 2004 at 4 PM in the St. Louis Planning & Urban Design Agency office, 1015 Locust Street, the St. Louis Preservation Board will hold a public hearing for the proposed district as part of its regular meeting. Affected property owners are invited to attend. A copy of the nomination and a map with specific boundaries will be available for inspection at the meeting.
