National Register of Historic Places
Districts and Multiple Property Nominations

more information about National Register districts in St. Louis
can be found on our history webpage: www.stlouishistory.org

The National Register of Historic Places is a nation-wide list of buildings, sites, structures and objects certified by the Secretary of Interior as possessing architectural, historical, or cultural importance. Individual buildings and those located within in a National Register historic district are eligible for Federal and Missouri State tax credits for rehabilitation, and tax advantages for easement donation. Listing a building on the National Register does not place any requirements on a private owner.

For a National Register District to be created, a nomination form must be completed. The application must be submitted to the Missouri State Historic Preservation Office and approved by the Missouri State Advisory Council for Historic Preservation. The completed nomination is then forwarded to the National Park Service, acting on behalf of the Secretary of the Interior. If approved, the nomination is signed by the Keeper of the National Register. For further information, contact the Cultural Resources Office.
