A National Historic Landmark (NHL) is a district, site, building, structure, or object that possesses exceptional value or quality in illustrating or interpreting the heritage of the Unites States in history, architecture, archeology, engineering and culture; and that possesses a high degree of integrity of location, design, setting, materials, workmanship, feeling, and association; and:National Historic Landmark designation is the highest honor awarded by the National Register of Historic Places, Department of the Interior. We are fortunate to have thirteen NHLs in St. Louis City.That is associated with events or persons important in the past. That is representative of the manmade expression of culture or technology That yields important information about prehistory or history.
