Saint Louis City Recorder of Deeds
Land Deed Recording and Copy Services

The City Recorder of Deeds is the public library of public records relating to real estate located in the City of Saint Louis and many other types of public records.

By recording a document, it becomes a part of the public record available for on-site inspection and/or copy purchase.

The statutory mission of the City Recorder is to preserve most records in perpetuity and provide public access to nearly 250-years of recorded history on the people and property of Saint Louis.

The City Recorder's Land Records Department accepts documents for recording based on requirements and fees set by State law and City ordinance.

The City Recorder's Imaging/Microfilm Department and Archives Department provide on-site inspection of documents at no fee and/or copies at fees set by State law.

Documents recorded at fee include, for example, deeds relating to the sale, granting or mortgaging of real estate, plats and surveys, powers of attorney, and Federal and State tax liens.

The State also mandates Missouri's Recorders to record certain documents without fee, such as Hazardous Waste Site Identification, Underground Pipeline Owners Identification, Home School Declaration of Enrollment, and Discharges from U.S. Armed Forces.

Recorded Discharges are not records available to the public for inspection or copy purchase.

In Fiscal Year 2001-2002, the Land Records Department recorded 90,582 documents.
