The Refuse Division is responsible for collection and disposal of residential waste for citizens of the City of St. Louis. The Refuse Division also coordinates efforts to reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, such as recycling, composting, and waste reduction.
Automated Refuse Collection System
What you should do:
- Place all household trash that cannot be recycled inside the refuse containers.
- Keep the lid closed.
- If the container nearest you is full, you may use a neighboring container which is not full.
- Place all refuse in the container - refuse piled on the ground around the container will not be
picked up.

What you should not do:
- Do not place the following items in the container:
- Yard Waste (grass, leaves, etc.) Each alley has specially marked containers for yard
waste only.
- Large Tree Limbs, Hedge or Bush Limbs - (over 3 feet in length or over 1 foot in
diameter)
- Flammable Liquids
- Furniture and bulky items, auto batteries, used motor oil, tires & appliances.
- Do not move or turn the containers.
- Do not place commercial refuse in container.
- Do not pile trash on the ground around the containers. Violators will be cited.
Holiday Trash Pickup Schedules:
If Your Regular Pickups are on Monday and Thursday
If Your Regular Pickups are on Tuesday and Friday
Yard waste will not be collected during weeks with a holiday.
